Question Question: Insignia and rune preferences for PvE

Hi all,

I'm not sure if a similar question has been posted before concerning rangers. I've searched using queries such as 'runes' and 'insignia', so hopefully I didn't miss something. If I did, I would greatly appreciate it if you directed me to the right information.

I recently took a hiatus from GW before the introduction of hard mode and all the related updates and now I'm looking into crafting new armor for my ranger. So, I was wondering, if I wanted a general armor set that will get me through the campaigns (easy mode and/or hard mode) and the elite missions, what insignias should I apply to my armor? Also, what runes should I apply as well, e.g., superior, major, and/or minor?

I've generally used +energy armor sets with a superior rune on the headpiece, but I've read threads on the Monk forum that using survivor insignias and minor runes (with an optional major rune on headpiece) would help with survivability and energy management. Would this mindset also apply to rangers?

Thanks for all your help in advance!

i go with all radiant insigs on my armor for energy and for the runes i use a sup rune of whatever attribute i want on the headpiece (i keep four different headpieces, each with a different sup attribute rune) then a sup vigor rune (if you cant get one a major works fine) and runes of vitae. this effectively negates the health loss from the sup attribute rune while giving you a really nice bonus on whichever attribute you need to focus on for that specific build. i never had a problem surviving with this setup, as long as you have a half decent party and have brought some defensive skills. [skill]Throw Dirt[/skill] and [skill]Whirling Defense[/skill] are always on my skillbar. but the key to survivability is smart playing. where you place yourself on the battlefield, what type of bow you are using, knowing whats going on in a battle at all times, knowing when to run, these are all key to surviving. and remember that expertise is a rangers best friend, after his pet of course .
